Delivery Business Startup Checklist: What to Organize Before Taking Jobs
Build the operation before chasing volume
A delivery or courier business needs more than a vehicle and a phone. Before taking jobs, organize the business identity, service boundaries, pricing method, customer intake, documentation, insurance requirements, and recordkeeping.
Business basics
Keep formation records, tax information, licenses or permits that apply to your location and service type, insurance documents, banking records, invoices, and contracts in one business folder. Requirements can change by city, state, cargo, and vehicle type, so verify the rules that apply before offering a new service.
Customer and job intake
Collect pickup and delivery details, contact names, timing requirements, item descriptions, special handling instructions, price approval, and proof of completion. A standard quote form prevents important details from getting lost in text messages.
Know what is not ready yet
Do not advertise a regulated or specialized service as operational until the required authority, insurance, training, equipment, or licensing is in place. Mark future services clearly as coming soon.
InterState Link Logistics uses this same checklist approach while building its logistics and delivery service lanes. More planning tools and business resources are available through interstatelinklogistics.com.
